Speech & Language Therapy Team

Rebecca Sim

Hello! I am Rebecca, a dedicated speech therapist with a comprehensive background in both paediatric and adult care. I hold a degree in Speech Pathology from the University of Sydney and have honed my skills through diverse experiences in hospitals, clinics, schools, and home-based settings across Singapore.

I am passionate about working with neurodivergent children and adults. My goal is to enhance their participation in daily life, be it for learning, or interacting with others, or time management, either through working on communication and/or executive function skills. This involves working closely with not only the individuals but also their families and schools to ensure they are not just understood but also supported, enabling them to thrive in all aspects of their lives. I emphasise developing self-awareness, which I believe is crucial for fostering change and motivating active participation in the therapy process.

I also particularly enjoy working with children with feeding difficulties. I find creative problem-solving immensely rewarding, tailoring strategies to each child’s unique needs and preferences to make mealtimes positive and enjoyable experiences for both the child and their family.

As a mother of a neurodivergent child myself, I truly understand the unique joys and challenges of parenting. This firsthand experience enriches my empathy for the families I see, and also continually inspires new ideas on ways to integrate practice into existing home routines. I am mindful of the mental load parents carry, and the importance of achievable and realistic practice in each home setting. I prefer to take a child-led approach to therapy, prioritising their needs and preferences, over simply assigning tasks or activities to be completed.

Although paediatric and adult care may seem worlds apart, I am equally passionate about supporting adults with speech and swallowing difficulties due to acquired and progressive neurological impairments. I strive to help them rebuild not just their communication skills, but their confidence and ability to participate in work, leisure, or social activities that they used to enjoy.

I am committed to a person-centred, holistic approach to assessment and therapy, focusing on meaningful outcomes. Collaboration with clients, families, and other professionals is at the heart of my practice. I embrace a neurodiversity-affirming approach, recognising and building on each individual’s strengths rather than focusing on deficits. This philosophy fosters better rapport with my clients and leads to more positive outcomes.
