Speech & Language Therapy Team

Joymarie Soo

Hey there! My name is Joymarie, but everyone calls me Joy! I’m a Speech-Language Therapist based in Singapore and a mother of two young boys.

My journey as a speech therapist began in Canada as I pursued an undergraduate degree in Psychology and Linguistics at the University of Toronto, hoping to make a difference in the lives of others. I then went on to continue my studies in Australia and completed my Master’s degree in Speech Pathology at Curtin University. Living, studying, and working in different countries has taught me a lot about embracing diverse cultures and perspectives. It’s been a humbling experience, helping me to truly appreciate the unique differences each person brings to the table.

Over the years, I’ve had the privilege of working with children from all sorts of backgrounds—kids with Autism Spectrum Disorder, Down Syndrome, Angelman Syndrome, intellectual disabilities, stuttering, and developmental language delays, to name a few. I’ve also worked with adults dealing with cognitive communication disorders. Early intervention is a particular passion of mine, especially when it comes to supporting children with complex communication needs, including those who use Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC) methods.

At the heart of my work is a simple belief: everyone should have the chance to express themselves authentically and communicate in a way that feels right for them. It’s not about fitting into a single mold but about recognising and honoring each person’s unique strengths and needs.

When it comes to therapy, I’m all about play—especially with my pediatric clients. Play is a powerful tool for building communication skills and social connections. I’m dedicated to making therapy fun and enjoyable, something every child looks forward to and cherishes.

As a mom myself, I’ve gained a deeper understanding of the challenges parents face, from the mental load to the daily balancing act of care, work, and life. This personal insight has deepened my empathy and shaped the way I support not just the children I work with but their families too.

So, whether it’s through a play-based session or just having a chat, my approach is always rooted in empathy, ethics, and a genuine commitment to helping my clients connect and communicate in ways that feel natural to them. I’m continuously learning and evolving in my practice, and I’m here to support you every step of the way.
