Speech & Language Therapy Team
Dawn Lim
Hello, I am Dawn, a Senior Speech-Language Therapist with extensive experience in acute care, rehabilitation, outpatient settings, and community health. Over the years, I have had the privilege of working with diverse patient populations in high-dependency and intensive critical unit settings, including being part of the COVID-19 & Critical Care team. My expertise lies in managing swallowing and communication impairments in adults with conditions such as stroke and neurodegenerative diseases. I am also trained in tracheostomy care and highly skilled in conducting Video Fluoroscopy Swallow Studies (VFSS), with specialised training in McNeill Dysphagia Therapy (MDTP) and Lee Silverman Voice Treatment (LSVT).
I am particularly passionate about geriatric rehabilitation and aural rehabilitation for adults with cochlear implants. I previously led the geriatric speech therapy team, where I oversaw clinical operations and provided guidance to junior therapists and new hires. Additionally, I have conducted group therapy sessions for the elderly, an approach I highly value as it promotes not only individual progress but also the social and societal aspects of therapy. Group therapy allows my patients to rediscover a sense of community and belonging, adding deeper meaning to their rehabilitation journey. I have also served as the Principal Investigator of an innovative project focused on developing a local aural rehabilitation application for cochlear-implanted adults.
In my role as an educator, I have been a clinical supervisor for NUS and SIT speech therapy students and serve as a guest lecturer for the gerontology program at Nanyang Polytechnic. I hold a Master of Science in Applied Gerontology from Nanyang Technological University, awarded under The Ngee Ann Kongsi Post-Graduate Scholarship, and a Bachelor of Applied Sciences (Speech Pathology) with First Class Honors from the University of Sydney, supported by a Ministry of Health Scholarship. My commitment to improving the quality of life for the elderly and cochlear implant recipients continues to drive my clinical practice and research, ensuring my patients receive the best possible care for their communication and swallowing needs.
