Cherisse Chong

Hello, I’m Cherisse! I’m a Speech-Language Therapist based in Singapore. My journey in speech therapy began during my undergraduate studies in Linguistics at the National University of Singapore (NUS). While volunteering at a student care centre for children with special needs, I met a young girl who was trying to express herself using gestures as she could not communicate verbally. After a few attempts at guessing, I finally understood what she was trying to say — and she nodded excitedly. That simple interaction opened my eyes to how deeply essential the human need for communication is, and it sparked my passion for supporting individuals with communication challenges. This experience led to a one-month internship at a hospital’s speech therapy department and eventually to pursuing a Master’s degree in Speech and Language Pathology at NUS.

Since then, I have had the privilege of supporting children and families across early intervention, mainstream, and special education settings within the social service sector. I have worked with children with various developmental needs, including Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), Global Developmental Delay (GDD), Speech Sound Disorders, Language Delays, Picky Eating, and those who use Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC). My areas of interest are language, feeding therapy, and AAC.
