Occupational Therapy Team
Aqilah Rashid
Hello, I’m Aqilah! I’m an Occupational Therapist who graduated from the Singapore Institute of Technology. Over the years, I have worked with children and youths across mainstream and special education settings, as well as in home-based therapy. My experience includes working with children with autism spectrum disorder, physical disabilities, developmental coordination disorder and other neurodevelopmental needs. My areas of practice include supporting self-care activities, school participation, handwriting, motor planning and coordination, as well as sensory processing and regulation. I also worked closely with teachers and caregivers through consultations, workshops, classroom-based support and class talks, with the aim of empowering the people around the child to better understand and support their needs.
I enjoy working with children through play and incorporating their interests into therapy as I believe children learn best when they are motivated and having fun. I also value home-based therapy because it allows me to see a child within their natural environment, understand the challenges experienced in their everyday routines, and collaborate to find strategies that are practical and meaningful for the family. As a parent myself, I believe that parents ultimately play a crucial role in maximising their child’s potential. Hence, empowering caregivers with the knowledge and strategies to support their child beyond therapy is equally as important as what happens during the therapy session.
Beyond direct clinical work, I am passionate about inclusion and advocacy. I have had opportunities to work alongside organisations on initiatives promoting greater awareness and inclusivity within the community, and I enjoy finding ways to make the environments around children more supportive and inclusive. At the heart of my practice is a belief that every child should have the opportunity to participate, feel a sense of belonging, and be supported by the people and environments around them. I hope to work alongside children, families, educators and the wider community to make this possible.
